The Booking Process
Use the online booking facility to check the availability and price of the boat you require.
All our holidays start and end on a Monday or a Friday.
Pick up times will be 2pm or 3pm on the first day and boats are due back at 10am on the final day.
Full payment is required 8 weeks before the start date of your holiday.
Holidays booked more than 8 weeks in advance are secured with a deposit of £150 per boat.
Once you have made an online reservation we will send you an email to confirm the booking along with further information to help you plan your holiday.
Please check the information and if you have any queries do get in touch.
The start of your holiday
When you arrive at our base you will be greeted and shown to your holiday boat. Once your belongings are on board we will give you a full tour of the vessel, explain how everything works and answer any questions you have. We can provide life jackets if you need them and help you with any last minute route planning.
If you have never operated a narrowboat before or if it was some time ago don't worry we will be taking the boat for short run to practice steering, turning, mooring etc. Then it will be time to tackle a lock. We always accompany our hirers through their first lock so the helmsman and the crew can be confident they are doing it right! After that...? well, its entirely up to you, just remenber to come back on time! And if you hit a snag, we are only a phone call away.
Safety and access information
Boating on the River Nene does require some physical stamina, steering the boat involves standing for periods of time and some of the guillotine locks are still manually operated which involves turning the winding gear by hand. The River Nene has 37 locks between Northampton and Peterborough, most of which have now been electrified. If you have any concerns about this please let us know. Our access statement contains further details about the premises and the boats
The end of your holiday
The price of your holiday is inclusive of the following:-
Diesel, gas and coal
Lifejackets as required
Credit Card Charges
Dogs are welcome - we allow up to two well behaved dogs at a charge of £20 per dog.
Our exclusive holiday cancellation protection policy is available for you to purchase at just 6% of the total hire cost. Further details below. All bookings are subject to our Terms and Conditions
Cancellation and Protection
For just 6% of the total holiday cost, our cancellation protection gives you comprehensive cover that is specifically tailored for holidays on the River Nene. It is not available from anyone else. This is not an insurance contract, it's our agreement with you to protect your money from unforeseen events that could prevent your holiday from taking place as planned. This includes both the personal circumstances of you and your crew, and natural events that could make the River Nene unsafe for boating.
Booking a holiday means entering into a contract with us to pay the full amount whether or not you are able to take the break. If the worst should happen our policy will ensure that in all qualifying circumstances you will not be liable to make any further payment. Or, if cancelling at short notice your money will be returned to you less the cost of the cancellation protection and any goods already supplied (eg maps or guidebooks)
Your holiday is also covered should the river become unnavigable for all or part of your trip due to closure by the Environment Agency (Strong Stream). A Strong Stream notice is issued by the Environment Agency when prolonged heavy rain over the river catchment area leads to dangerous river flows, reduced headroom at bridges and the need to 'reverse' locks to discharge flood water out to sea.
Cancellation protection is available to purchase at the time of booking. Full terms and conditions are available here. It is not compulsory and hirers who do not wish to take it will be covered by our standard Cancellation Policy. All bookings are subject to our Terms and Conditions.
The boat is required to be back in the marina and vacated by 10am on the final day of your holiday so please be sure to check the journey time from your final nights mooring back to base (don't forget to include time for locks) The boat should be moored bow in (don't worry about turning it round) at the mooring it departed from. Its really helpful if you can strip the beds, gather up used towels and ensure the fridge is empty. We will dispose of your rubbish and recycling so please leave it on the front deck, if you can put glass separately that would be great.
If there have been any mishaps along the way, losses from the boat inventory or if anything was wrong, missing or not working please let one of us know so we can rectify the problem for future hirers. We will keep lost property for six weeks so get in touch if you've mislaid anything. We hope you have had a great time and have a safe journey home.
