Houseboat Hire

Sammy makes a comfortable houseboat, permanently moored for up to two people (and a dog if you want to bring your pet). As a static houseboat she is available to book between October and April. Moored in rural surroundings just a short distance from Oundle, Northamptonshire, Sammy enjoys uninterrupted views across the river. On a fine evening the sun sinks to the west leaving behind a glorious red and golden sky.

Sammy is a well appointed and comfortable boat. She has a large saloon with dining table dvd player a sound system and lots of books! There is also a cupboard full of board games.  The kitchen (Galley) has a gas hob, grill, oven and microwave. The refrigerator has a small icebox and there is a full complement of pans, crockery, cutlery and glassware. The compact shower room has a sink and flushing toilet as well as the shower, which lots of people praise as a 'really good shower', considering it's on a boat! The bedroom has a double bed with a proper mattress. Duvets, pillows, fresh bed linen and towels will be provided for your stay. Contrary to popular myth, boats are not cold in winter and Sammy has double glazing and radiator central heating throughout.

Although you hire Sammy as a 'houseboat' for an additional charge we can arrange a day trip on the river. This can be on your own (after a thorough briefing and instruction) or with a skipper for the day.

The moorings are part of a small linear community of boats, so while it is quiet and very peaceful, other boaters are around some of the time and at certain times of the day there will be the sound of boat engines and the general noise of life on the river as well as the sounds of ducks, geese, grebes, kingfishers and moorhens. It's a great way to experience life afloat for a few days.

If you are staying for a couple of days there is plenty to explore.  We are about a mile from the market town of Oundle with its beautiful honey coloured stone buildings and where you will find many lovely shops, pubs and restaurants.  You could visit Lyveden New Bield, an Elizabethan Lodge and moated garden or take a trip to Fotheringhay to see the remains of the castle, birthplace of Richard III and execution site of Mary, Queen of Scots.  Stamford is another lovely  town to visit and is home to Burghley House, built by the Cecil family in the 16th century. There is a fine cathedral at Peterborough which is the burial place of Katherine of Aragon, the first wife of Henry VIII.  There are plenty of country parks and wildlife reserves in the area too, and places such as Stanwick Lakes, Rushden Lakes, Barnwell Country Park and Ferry Meadows for walking, cycling and other outdoor activities. There is also the Nene Way, a long distance footpath to explore if walking is your thing.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard!
