DAY HIRE

Our narrowboats are available for day hire (when they are not away on holiday) at £150 per day. Sumo can accomodate up to 6 persons, Sammy can take up to 8. Both are fully equipped to ensure a comfortable journey.

Your day out will start at 9.00am (later by arrangement) with a full handover, tuition on boat handling and passage through your first lock. The day is then yours to spend as you please cruising the river, visiting local villages, pubs and restaurants, or finding a tranquil spot to moor and enjoy the peace and quiet. The boat must be returned before dusk – you will be given a specific time during the handover.

Bookings for day hire can be made up to two weeks in advance. Please call 01832 272585 or email us.
Weekend hire is also available at certain times - prices vary so call us for further details.

SUGGESTED ROUTES

Travelling upstream you can reach the market town of Thrapston in approximately 4 hours.
Moor just beyond the nine arch bridge for easy access to the town and the adjoining village of Islip. Numerous pubs and a victorian tea room are to be found.

Head downstream and Fotheringhay is approximately 4 hours away. Here you can see the remains of the 11th century castle where Mary Queen of Scots was executed. Walk on the mound where it stood with a commanding view of the river. The church of St Mary and All Saints is a magnificent 15th century structure that stands alongside the river. Unlike most Northamptonshire churches it boasts a fine tower. The Falcon public house in the village is noted for its good food.

Or why not do a bit of both?: Head downstream and follow the river as it skirts the town of Oundle. Use the moorings after Ashton Lock and walk up the hill to the model village of Ashton built and still owned by the Rothschild family. The Chequered Skipper public house has great food and beer. Head back upstream past the boatyard and on to Wadenhoe. Beyond the lock there are moorings at the King's Head for those visiting this fine hostelry. There are more moorings further along the footpath where you can stop to explore the very pretty village.
